2)
Wine tours
Vineyards and wine - 1hr – 6.00 € per person
The vineyard tour places the emphasis on work through the
seasons. You’ll learn about the various tasks carried out on a
quality ‘terroir’, such as pruning, “sécaillage”, or tying up.
You’ll also learn how to recognise a grape variety and assess
the flower, inflorescence and the different stages in the life
of a bunch of grapes. The tour then takes you into the winery
where you’ll see the results of all this work, followed by a
tasting.
Vinification and wine - 1hr – 6.00 € per person
During your visit to the winery and maturing cellars you’ll
learn all about the different stages of good vinification
through blending, maturing and, finally, bottling. The visit
will end with a tasting.
Architecture and wine - 1hr – 6.00 € per person
You’ll discover the astonishing architecture of Château
Lanessan, built in 1878 in an English style reinterpreted by
Abel Duphot, a 19th Century modernist architect.
You’ll be able to compare it with other buildings on the estate,
such as the cellars, built in 1887 in the traditional Médoc
style, and the layout of the buildings will be explained, along
with the remarkable organisation that the past has bequeathed
us. The visit will end with a tasting.
Vertical tasting - Inclusive price: 68
€.
(up to 8 people)
To know an estate well, you need to taste a number of vintages.
A guided tasting helps you to learn about the various changes
that take place in wines, and also highlights what makes them
belong to the same family. Although the grape varieties are the
same and vinification is based on the same foundations, external
factors such as climate mean that no two vintages are the same,
rather like brothers and sisters from the same family. We invite
you to make this discovery by tasting Château Lanessan’s 1992,
1994, 1996 and 1998 vintages.
Horizontal tasting - Inclusive price: 68
€.
(up to 8 people)
A number of Châteaux sit side by side at Domaines Bouteiller,
and despite the proximity of the vines and the same team, the
wines that are produced are very different. The special features
of the soils and blending explain the differences in taste
characteristic of each Château and make them suitable for ageing
or, on the contrary, providing immediate pleasure. These
characteristics and differences may be seen through a
comparative study of the 1999 vintage of four wines, Château
Lanessan, Château Lachesnaye, Château Sainte-Gemme and Les
Calèches de Lanessan.
Tasting grape varieties - Inclusive price: 68
€.
(up to 8 people)
The Médoc wine region is characterised by a wine made from
several grape varieties that are “blended”. Through this tasting
you’ll learn about the special features of each grape variety:
Merlot, Cabernet sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Petit Verdot,
which are used to make Château Lanessan wine. You’ll then
realise that blending is much more than just a simple
juxtaposition of grape varieties.
3)
Horse tours
The
Horse Museum - 1hr – 6.00 € per person
You’ll spend an hour exploring this superb museum, with its
horsedrawn carriage shed, wash-house, tack room and luxurious
stables. The visit ends with a tasting to remind you of the
close link between horses and wine at Domaines Bouteiller.
A
carriage tour of the vineyards - 1hr30 - 85 € / 5 people
If you like fresh air and horses, the “École Internationale
d’Attelage” in Bordeaux will take you on a tour of the vineyards
and the layout of the estates. You’ll explore the forest, the
various species of trees that go to make it up and the many
drives that cross through it. You’ll enjoy the presence of a top
athlete, Patrick Rébulard, many times French four-horse team
champion. To add to your knowledge of the estate, you’ll also
visit the winery and cellars and be offered a tasting … because,
at Château Lanessan, carriages and horses form part of the story
of a passion between men and wine.
4)
Educational Visits
(Ministry of Education approved)
These visits have been planned to help infant and primary
teachers and have received the support of the local education
inspector.
They are also planned to give parents an opportunity to provide
their children with an informative activity during a
recreational outing, while they go on a theme tour.
For school groups: you may bring a full class, with teachers
joining in on the visit. The class is split into two. Please
contact the Estate.
Tastes and colours or tasting: a journey through our senses -
1hr30 - 60 €/ up to 15 people (children or adults). Over 15
people, 4€ per person.
– visit approved by “la semaine du goût 2005 et 2006”
This is a discovery of aromatic plants through the senses of
sight and smell, in the Domaines Bouteiller garden: a real
marvel with its Dutch greenhouses.
You’ll learn how to use a glass to perceive scents and discover
the flavours and aromas of different fruit juices. Tasting a
blend becomes a game to stimulate children’s curiosity.
Life in the “belle époque” or the life of the DELBOS-BOUTEILLER
family - 1hr30 - 60 €/ up to 15 people (children or
adults). Over 15 people, 4€ per person.
The chronology of events and a family tree, applied to the
history of France and the Delbos-Bouteiller family, are notions
that clarify time and set landmarks for children, who live very
much in the here and now.
A visit to the Horse Museum and the history of this Médoc family
will explain these notions and help children to apply them.
The
Harvest or the choices made at Domaines Bouteiller -
1hr30 - 60 €/ up to 15 people (children or adults). Over 15
people, 4€ per person.
From September to October we’ll show you that wonder of nature
that is a vineyard, before, during or after the harvest. We’ll
explain how a bunch of grapes is formed and what it contains,
with questions in the form of a quiz, and we’ll talk about the
grape varieties that make the Bordeaux vineyards so original and
special.
We’ll also show you two harvesting methods, manual and
mechanical, and the children will end the visit by making grape
juice.
